How to compress a video
- Choose your video (MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI or 3GP).
- Pick a mode: Auto, Target size (for example 100 MB), Quality (High to Smallest) or Resize (1080p, 720p, 480p, 360p).
- Press Compress video, wait for the progress bar, then preview and download the MP4.
Which mode should I use?
Example: a 2-minute 1080p phone video of 300 MB becomes about 40-60 MB in Auto mode, or under 25 MB with Target size.
- Auto - best balance; usually 50-80% smaller with no visible change.
- Target size - when a site or app has a limit: 16 MB for WhatsApp, 25 MB for Gmail, 100 MB for many upload forms.
- Quality - choose how much quality to give up: High, Medium, Low or Smallest.
- Resize - lower the resolution (for example 4K or 1080p to 720p) for the biggest savings.
Private and free
The video is compressed in your browser with the open-source FFmpeg engine. It is never uploaded, there is no watermark, no sign-up and no limit on how many videos you compress.
Size limits to know
Use Target size mode with the exact limit and the tool works out the quality for you.
- WhatsApp: videos above about 16 MB are often compressed heavily or sent as documents.
- Email: about 20-25 MB per message.
- Many college and job portals limit videos to 50-100 MB.
Keep the video looking good
Lowering the resolution to 720p is the biggest saving with the smallest visible loss on phones. Very long videos at small targets will look soft - trim the parts you do not need first. Compression runs on your device, so it is slower than a server but your video stays private.
Questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. Everything happens on your device, so private videos stay private.
How long does it take?
It depends on your device and the video length. A 100 MB video usually takes 1-5 minutes on a laptop; phones are slower. Keep the tab open until it finishes.
How do I compress a video to 100 MB?
Choose Target size, tap 100 MB (or type any number) and press Compress video. The tool sets the quality, and lowers the resolution if needed, to stay under 100 MB.
Will the quality drop?
Auto and High keep the picture nearly identical. Smaller targets and Low or Smallest quality trade some sharpness for size.
Which formats work?
MP4, MOV (iPhone), WEBM, MKV, AVI and 3GP in, MP4 out - the format every phone, computer and website accepts.
Is there a size limit?
Videos up to about 1.5 GB work in most browsers. For longer videos, trim or split them first.
Why is compression slow?
Video encoding is heavy work done by your own device. A laptop is much faster than an older phone; keep the tab open until it finishes.
